How do I register with my registration code, and why does my code say it is invalid or already used?

Modified on Wed, 21 Oct at 11:48 AM

This article is for participants taking a self-led online course: Prime Accountability (formerly myPrime) at www.myprimecourse.org, or one of the other myPrime courses.

To register for myPrime, use the direct registration link that includes your code, which avoids typing errors (format, on your matching site, e.g.: https://www.myprimecourse.org/myprime/register?regcode=[your code] or https://ng.myprimecourse.org/myprime/register?regcode=[your code]). You may need to copy and paste the full link into your browser.

A valid code is generally lowercase letters, sometimes with an optional prefix and/or suffix separated by underscores (for example, abcdefghijklmn_full). The most common reasons a code appears invalid or won't work:

  1. Wrong site. Codes are tied to a specific version of the site (general, Navy, Coast Guard, National Guard, state programs, Spanish). Register on the site matching the source of your code — see the related article on choosing the right site. The main addresses are: general/public https://www.myprimecourse.org, US Navy https://navy.myprimecourse.org, National Guard https://ng.myprimecourse.org, and Spanish https://spanish.myprimecourse.org. If you were sent a registration link, use that link rather than searching the internet for Prime Accountability.
  2. Already used. A code creates only one account. If you already registered with it, you do not need the code again — simply log in with the username and password you created, and use "Help, I forgot my password" if needed. You enter a registration code only when you are creating your account, so check that you are on the registration tab rather than the login form — on the Spanish site this is the second tab, Registro.
  3. Mistyped or altered. A single dropped or changed character (such as an "a" instead of a "z") will cause it to fail, and codes often get altered when forwarded by email. Double-check it against the original, or send support the original message so they can verify the exact code. Codes are also frequently cut off when they are forwarded in an email or a text message, and a code missing its ending — for example a trailing _full — will be rejected, so confirm you copied the whole code. Paste it with no spaces before or after it, and watch for autocorrect changing the letter case.
  4. Used by someone else, or it's not actually a code. If it shows as registered to another person, or the value contains numbers / looks like an order or confirmation number (likely a payment receipt), request the correct, unused registration code.

PRI generally cannot generate codes itself — a new or replacement code must come from the issuing authority (your school administrator, agency, provider, commanding officer/DAPA, or state program/National Guard moderators). If you cannot register, tell support who gave you the code and your state/branch so they can locate the correct code and site, and where authorized issue a replacement.

Additional tips: enter the code exactly, including any state/branch prefix (for example NM_ or IL_) and the _full suffix, and avoid extra spaces or easily confused characters. You cannot generate your own registration code — it comes from your assigning command, agency, or state. If a code shows 'invalid' or 'already used' but you believe you already registered, you don't need a new code: just log in with the username and password you created (for instructor/NITO training, log in at www.primeforlife.org; for Prime Accountability, use your branch/state site) and use the password reset option if needed — your progress is saved. If you never received a code, reach out to the person or office that assigned you the course.

Where codes come from: registration codes are issued by the referring agency or state program that requires the course, and PRI does not generate them on request. In most cases the code is embedded in the registration link inside your welcome or enrollment email, so you never have to type it — clicking that link opens the sign-up page with the code already applied. For state-administered programs such as the Iowa online course, the state agency issues the codes; if you need a code for license reinstatement or a court or DOT requirement, contact the state program office that referred you. If a court, probation officer, school, or employer told you to take Prime Accountability, ask that referring party for the enrollment link or code. If you have the welcome email but the link does not work, forward it to support so the registration can be checked.

If an assigned code is rejected as invalid or already in use — for example it was mistakenly redeemed, came from a depleted batch, or was recorded as in use before you enrolled — first confirm you are on the correct course site and on the registration page rather than the login page. Then contact myPrime support, state that your assigned code is being rejected, and identify the program or command that assigned it. Include your registration code and the exact web address you are using, so support can check whether the code is valid and, if it is, send you a direct registration link. Where authorized, support can issue a replacement registration code directly, so you do not always have to go back to whoever originally distributed the codes. Register with the replacement code, create your username and password, and continue the course.

Spanish-language enrollment: the Spanish course uses the same mechanism on its own site, https://spanish.myprimecourse.org/. When you are enrolled, an automated welcome message is emailed to you with a personalized registration link that carries your code. Click that link, or go to the Spanish site's registration page and enter the code manually if the link does not work. Complete the registration form, create a username and password, and log in with those credentials from then on. If you did not receive the enrollment email, ask the coordinator or agency that enrolled you to resend it, or contact PRI support and confirm whether you have a registration code. Si tiene problemas para acceder o registrarse, comuníquese con el soporte de Prime Accountability e indique si ya tiene un código de registro.

A quick checklist when a code is rejected:

  1. Wrong site. Your code only works on the myPrime site that matches your program: general/public https://www.myprimecourse.org, National Guard https://ng.myprimecourse.org, US Navy https://navy.myprimecourse.org, US Coast Guard https://cg.myprimecourse.org, IowaPrime/OWI https://iowaprime.myprimecourse.org, Spanish https://spanish.myprimecourse.org. If your program has its own course site, use the exact web address in your enrollment email.
  2. Mistyped. Retype the code exactly as issued rather than pasting it, and watch for extra spaces at either end and for the letter O versus the number 0.
  3. Already used. Each code registers one participant once. If you used it yourself, do not ask for a new one -- log in with the username and password you created, or use "Forgot password" on your program's login page.
  4. It has to come from your program. Registration codes are issued by the organization that required the course -- a school, agency, court or diversion program, counselor, or employer -- and they are the right people to ask for a new or corrected code.

If none of that resolves it, contact PRI support through the Contact Us link on your course site and include the code you were given, who gave it to you, the name and email address you registered with, the exact web address you are using, and the exact wording of the error message (a screenshot is ideal). Support may ask you to complete the Enrolled Participant Form so your enrollment can be located. If you were told to take the course in Spanish, say so -- the Spanish course is a separate site and the steps differ slightly.

If the site tells you it does not recognize your email address, that normally means your account has not been created yet. You have to finish registering through the link with your code before you can log in with an email address at all.

If you have a valid code and just need the registration page, enter it at https://myprimereg.primeforlife.org/Register/UserKeyRegistration, or use the registration link you were emailed, which already has your code built into it.

One thing that is not a cause: registration codes are not on a short expiry clock. A code you received recently has not gone stale because a day or two has passed, so if a new code is rejected, work through the checklist above -- wrong site, mistyped, already used -- rather than assuming it timed out. If it still will not take, contact support with the code and who issued it, for example your Risk Coordinator or your agency, and support can confirm whether the code is unused and which site it belongs to.

A note on the name: the online course at www.myprimecourse.org is now called Prime Accountability (formerly myPrime). You may still see "myPrime" branding on that site and on the registration site, myprimereg.primeforlife.org, while they are being updated -- the transition is in progress. The other myPrime courses -- the military programs (Navy, National Guard, Coast Guard and Army Reserve), The Citadel, Iowa and the Spanish-language course -- keep the myPrime name.
